Overview

What is Lagos Life?

Lagos Life is a free, multiplayer life simulation played entirely in your web browser. Think The Sims — but set in Lagos, Nigeria, with danfo buses, NEPA power cuts, amala at Shitta and a landlord who knows exactly what day it is.

The one-minute version

You open lagoslife.app, create a character and step into a shared city with thousands of other real players. You rent a home, find a job, keep six needs topped up, climb the money ladder and pay rent every Saturday. It needs no download and is rated 18+.

A typical first session

Here’s what your first time in Lagos Life looks like, step by step:

  1. Open the site and sign up with a name, a username and (optionally) an email for password resets.
  2. Build your Lagosian — pick a look, a personality and a dream to chase.
  3. Survive the birth lottery — the server hands you a Nepo Baby, LAPO Baby or UNILAG Fresher start.
  4. Find a job from your in-game phone and travel to the city where it is based.
  5. Work, gig and pay rent — keep six needs topped up and set aside Saturday’s rent.

Who made it

Lagos Life was made by Nigerian developer Shalom Rayhamen, under the studio name Eliy. The idea came from playing The Sims 3 and wondering what a life sim would look like in a world that felt like home — then Lagos Run, a viral browser game about driving a danfo through Lagos traffic, lit the match. It launched in early October 2026 and spread across Nigerian X and TikTok within days.

The Lagos flavour

What makes Lagos Life memorable is its sense of place. You ride danfo buses across a map of real Lagos landmarks (Balogun Market, UNILAG, Quilox, Elegushi Beach), eat amala at Shitta, and deal with NEPA power cuts — the game will genuinely tell you to buy a generator or solar before the power ruins your evening. Rent is collected every Saturday, and a landlord named Baba Landlord is not someone you want to keep waiting.

How it blew up

Lagos Life went from launch to a million players in about three days — largely because it needsno download. It spread on mobile data, on phones, with no app-store friction: you tap a link and you’re in the city. The map keeps changing, with the Airport and Refinery already labelled “Coming soon”, and more cities (Abuja and Port Harcourt) announced as in development.

How it makes money (and stays free)

Lagos Life is free because it is ad-funded. The game sells in-city billboard slots and premium “sea plots” (advertising space on Lagos Lagoon) to real Nigerian brands — you walk past them as you play. Optional naira top-ups add real money too, but you can experience the whole game without spending. That model is why the game is built to spread: the advertising is worth more when the city is busy.

Is it safe, and can you cash out?

Lagos Life is 18+ because you chat with real strangers — keep personal details out of chat. In-game naira has no real-world value and cannot be withdrawn or sold outside the game. Tokens using the “Lagos Life” name are unofficial, and there is no APK — the game runs in the browser at lagoslife.app.

Where to play it

Open lagoslife.app in Chrome or Safari on any phone or computer — no download, no app store. On iPhone use Safari (iOS 16.4 or newer); on Android use Chrome. You can add it to your home screen so it opens like an app — see the app & download guide for the exact steps.
